Chandra Space Telescope

Welcome to Chandra Science Center

This is the Web interface to the Observation Visualizer at Chandra Science Center in Cambridge, Massachussets, USA.
Currently it allows the viewing of Roll, Pitch, and Visibility Plots in Postscript format. The plot uses a recent projected Chandra ephemeris. Since Chandra's orbit does not change much from year-to-year, plots are also closely applicable for any mission year.
You will need to have your browser configured correctly to reliably view the postscript plots. The ObsVis FoV overlay program is available within CIAO: our website. For more information please consult the online obsvis help page: online obsvis help page.
To use: enter the J2000 sky coordinates of the source of interest in the boxes on the left and click on 'View Plot'. A number of different input formats for RA and DEC coordinates of the target are accepted. Alternatively, use the name resolver functionality if a target name is known.
Plots: the plot shows the source visibility in blue, the roll angle in green, and the pitch angle in red as a function of time on the x-axis.
Data: the data used to make these plots can also be viewed as text: Julian DateD-2451000, Nominal Roll, Percent Visibility, Plus and Minus Roll Tolerance, Pitch Angle
